How Can I Keep My Artisanal Soap?

This question is one that comes back often: how can one ensure the durability of an artisanal soap?

A cold process soap is traditionally air cured for a period of about 5 weeks. During this time, it will harden considerably while it loses its weight in water.

The result is a durable bar, packed [usually!] with a multitude of treasures for your skin.

So how can one maintain this beauty bar?

The answer is in the use. If the soap is left in a puddle of water in the shower in between uses, it will end up eroding and become much too soft for one’s taste! However, if we invest in a beautiful self-draining little soap dish, such as the one shown below, we ensure that the soap dries in between uses, which guarantees its durability.
